Rabbit Hole Scarf

Idea:

Celebrate Wikipedia’s 25th birthday by creating a staff-exclusive scarf that replicates the very digital experience of falling down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. With Wikipedia as our starting point and birthday as our end point, we designed a meandering route of 16 articles in between. Each of the 18 images that we selected is open-source and from Wikimedia Commons

Results:

This swag quickly became a staff favorite.

Notes:

Once we decided on the rabbit hole direction, we spent hours and hours manually tracing the pathways that link the articles together and landed here after many dead ends. The images had to appeal to a global audience, not be depressing nor controversial, and high-res enough to be printed on the scarf.

Role:

Worked closely with art director partner, came up with idea, pulled inspiration, fell down many rabbit holes, chose some scarf imagery, selected photographer, and art directed photoshoot.
